Sidney Allen was born in Thame and baptised at St Mary’s Church on 25th March 1888. He was the son of Richard and Ann Allen of Thame. His brother Charles Allen is also recorded in these reports.
In 1901 he was 13 years old and living in Lower High St (near the Six Bells) with brother Charles (8) and two sisters.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission record him as son of Richard Allen of 45 High Street, Thame and husband of Laura Adelaide Allen of 24 St Asaph Road, Brickley, London.
He enlisted in Camberwell, Surrey and served with the 1st/5th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (Private 263029) on the Somme, France. He was killed during an operation known as the Great German Attack on 28th March 1918 age 30 years.
He has no known grave and so is commemorated on the Pozieres War Memorial, Somme, France.
His is remembered in Thame on the War Memorial, St Mary’s Church Memorial Board and on All Saints Memorial Board.
